Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaking. Feminist Frequency is a web site which hosts video and commentary looking at the portrayals of female characters in popular media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. She is the founder and director of executive for Feminist Frequency which is an education not-for-profit website that explores representations of women in popular stories of culture. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes of women as they are depicted in pop culture. Additionally she has a mission to increase awareness of online harassment directed at women and marginalized groups of people. Sarkeesian, who has an MA in the field of Social and Political Thinking at York University, is a popular public speaking. She has delivered speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. Passionate about issues of gender identity and feminism from an early age she launched her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while still a student at the university. The ambitious lady planned to create a web series examining the gender roles in video games. She found herself the target of an online harassment campaign. The harassment didn't hinder her. The experience only strengthened her as a journalist who is feminist. Many awards have been presented to her as a way of acknowledging her contributions to the field she made. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a journalist. She also serves as the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture depictions of women.
