
Julie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and singer whose career spanned over 40 years. A torch singer noted for her gorgeous, sultry contralto vocals, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 between the years 1955 and 1969. The song she sang on "Cry me a river", a track she introduced on her debut album, was admitted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award as a actor for her role in Emergency! of Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her professional career began as an actress while she was employed as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's 35-year acting career began in the film industry in 1944 and included roles as the female lead in numerous westerns, co-starring with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) along with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) along with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the late 1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional music career. The final album of her studio was released in the year 1969. Her success continued as the female star role in the role of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) The show was with her husband Bobby Troup. The show was directed by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
